Mirrors: Michael Morris & Dion Smith-Dokkie

Mirrors, curated by Rodney Sharman, presents a series of watercolour nudes created by Michael Morris during his Berlin residency in the 1980s. Unique in Morris’ predominantly abstract oeuvre, these paintings depict hustlers, artists, and friends posing in front of mirrors, so that their form could be captured from different angles. These nudes, none of which have ever been exhibited publicly, are presented alongside newly commissioned paintings — “reflections” on Morris’ work — by West Moberly First Nations artist Dion Smith-Dokkie. Turning the viewer’s gaze upon himself, Smith-Dokkie's nude self-portraits are a sensuous, intimate, and vulnerable departure from the artist’s otherwise abstract body of work. Rotimi Fani-Kayode: Tranquility of Communion exhibition

This landmark survey featuring nearly 200 works by the late, groundbreaking photographer, Rotimi Fani-Kayode. This major exhibition brings together key series of colour and black-and white photographs, along with archival prints and never-before-exhibited works from Fani-Kayode's student years. Often created in collaboration with his partner Alex Hirst (1951-1992), Fani-Kayode's photographs treat romantic love with spiritual reverence, translating the emotional intensity of same-sex, multiracial desire into richly evocative symbolic language.
